Born and raised in San Diego, Williams played baseball thoughout his youth. After Joining the Red Sox in 1939, he immediately emerges as one of the sports best hitters and rarely struck out. He claimed he could see the ball spinning. In 1941, Williams posted a .406 batting average: the last player to do bat over .400 in a season.
